The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has just released the third edition of the K-12 School Security Guide. This comprehensive guide provides a doctrine and systems-based methodology to support schools in conducting vulnerability assessments and planning to implement layered physical security elements across K–12 districts and campuses.

The guide is designed to help local schools and school districts adopt a systems-based approach to physical security planning and implementation. It demonstrates how taking a systems-based approach to layered physical security can help schools create safe and secure learning environments without burdening staff members or expecting them to become security experts. The guide specifically focuses on the most common incidents of crime and violence that K-12 schools in the United States face today.
