Winning Student Editorial Advocates for One-to-One

A Florida ninth grader takes third prize with her essay on the advantages of laptops over textbooks.

Florida should issue a laptop to every high school student, writes ninth grader Marissa Senzamici. Her editorial won the third place prize in a student editorial contest sponsored by the Ledger of Polk County Florida.

Senzamici points out that using laptops daily would “give students the advantages of staying organized, researching material faster and easier, and being freed of the weight of textbooks to carry.” She has done her research, pointing out that “the U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission estimates that, each year, about 5,000 emergency room visits result from injuries related to overloaded backpacks.”
