Pequea Valley, PA, to Expand from Pilot to School-wide Implementation

Pequea Valley High School will expand its one-to-one laptop pilot to the whole school starting in September, 2011.

When school starts in September all the high school students in Pequea Valley will have an Apple MacBook to use for their school work. In the past year, 150 students have been involved in a pilot program that district leaders say has worked well and benefited participants. Now the board has voted 7 to 2 to spend $572,395 in order to expand the program to its nearly 500 high school students.

How can the technology be expanded in such financially difficult times? The board is actually looking forward to saving money when it comes to textbooks, paper, and cutting back on cyberschool tuition. "Educationally and financially this initiative makes sense," said district superintendent, Patrick Hollock.
