New Division of Intel Labs Aims to Reinvent the Computing Experience

At its annual R&D event, Intel showcased future technologies that will revolutionize the way people interact with personal technology devices.

A new division of Intel Labs, announced at the June 30 "Research at Intel" event, will focus on defining new user experiences and new computing platforms, helping to help re-imagine how we will all experience computing in the future. Known as Interaction and Experience Research (IXR), the new division will research societies and people worldwide and design and develop technologies that enable breakthrough product experiences.

According to Intel Corporation CTO Justin Rattner, who announced the new division, computers of the future "will become much more personal and social through individual user contexts informed by sensors, augmented by cloud intelligence, and driven by more natural interfaces such as touch, gesture and voice." Examples showcased at the event included future technologies to revolutionize social networking, share battery life and performance across devices, and allow computers to recognize everyday objects, interpret hand gestures, and actually "read minds."
