Intel Chairman to Co-Chair Education Non-Profit’s Board of Directors

Achieve, Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that helps states raise academic standards, improve assessments and strengthen accountability, announced that Intel chairman Craig R. Barrett will co-chair its board of directors.

“We are pleased to announce that Craig Barrett has agreed to serve as the co-chair of Achieve effective immediately,” says a spokesperson for Achieve, Inc. “Achieve was created by the nation’s governors and business leaders to help states raise academic standards and achievement so that all students graduate ready for college, work and citizenship. [Craig Barrett] has served on the Achieve Board for a number of years and has been a strong advocate of the Achieve agenda and American Diploma Project.”

Barrett, a materials scientist and former Stanford University faculty member, was CEO of Intel from 1998 to 2005 and currently serves as Chairman. He will co-chair the board with Governor Easley of North Carolina

According to Barrett, “Achieve plays a strategic role in ensuring that U.S students have the knowledge and skills they need to compete in an increasingly flat and complex world. By focusing policymakers and educators on raising academic standards and creating diplomas that count, I am confident that Achieve’s efforts will help significantly more high school students reach their potential in college, career and life.”
