January 12, 2007 Illinois Students Get Free Laptops Seven districts will participate in pilot program that includes laptops, professional development. According to the State Journal-Register, seven Illinois school districts were chosen to participate in a pilot program that lets students receive free Apple laptop computers to keep for three years.
In addition to the laptops, the program will pay for carrying cases, professional development and technical support--along with technology to keep track of lost or stolen computers. In the Springfield School District, sixth-graders from Grant, Lincoln, Franklin and Washington middle schools will receive Apple's new Mac Books, which come with built-in cameras and wireless connectivity to the Internet. In all seven districts in the program, sixth-graders will be receiving the computers. |
