ANN ARBOR – Dr.Paul Higgins, a 1989 Greenhills alumnus and senior policy fellow at the American Meteorological Society, will present: Climate Change: What We Know and What We Can Do at Greenhills School Monday, November 26. Higgins’ presentation is part of an all-school convocation celebrating its upper school science program winning an Intel Award of Distinction for being the best in the country.

As a senior policy fellow at the American Meteorological Society, Higgins develops and advances solutions to society’s climate change problem. As part of these efforts, he initiated the ClimatePolicy project. From 2005-2006 Higgins was a Congressional Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). During his fellowship year, he analyzed climate policy in the office of Ohio Senator Mike DeWine. While there he developed provisions to encourage international cooperation and to broadly benefit a wide range of stakeholders. Higgins’s scientific research examines the causes and consequences of global climate change. Higgins received Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from Stanford University and was a National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellow at the University of California. He is a former fellow of the Department of Energy’s Global Change Education Program.

“We are especially pleased to have our alumnus, Dr. Paul Higgins, as our guest on this occasion honoring our science program. He represents hundreds of Greenhills alumni who have gone on to significant careers in the sciences,” said Greenhills Science Department Chair Martha Friedlander.

Greenhills received the Intel Award of Distinction for its upper school science program on May 30. As the winner of this award, Greenhills received a $10,000 cash grant from the Intel Foundation and a package of hardware, software and services valued at more than $160,000.
