Academy Faculty Happy With Tablet PCs and Management Software
Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic girls’ school in Houston, TX, first launched its one-to-one program more than a decade ago, offering students in the middle and upper schools 24/7 access to laptops. Recently the school upgraded to tablet PCs supported by DyKnow management software. A case study at the DyKnow web site offers a video profile, with teachers talking about the implementation, and a PDF with additional examples.
Students were very involved in the decision to adopt the tablet PCs; a group of them spent a year testing the new models, documenting the advantages and disadvantages of pen-based technology. Now that the tablet PCs have been purchased, teachers are excited about the element of collaboration made possible by the DyKnow software that accompanies the hardware. In math class, for example, teacher Lynn Luton uses DyKnow’s Work Groups feature to give students a shared workspace where they can dynamically solve problems together and the Panel Submission feature to demonstrate students’ work to the group.
Other examples and information can be found at the DyKnow Web site.
