TWITTER: Pointless Babble or Valuable Networking?

In summarizing research about Twitter by the group Pear Analytics, Wikipedia reports: “The firm found that ‘pointless babble’ was the largest category of Twitter content, making up … 40.55 percent of the total number of messages sampled.” Social networking researcher Danah Boyd takes issue with this conclusion, however, countering that what the Pear researchers labeled "pointless babble" is better characterized as "peripheral awareness" or "social grooming".

Where do you come down on the Twitter spectrum? Are you a prolific tweeter? An occasional one? A twitterphobe? How many people do you follow on twitter? Take this month’s Quick Poll and let us know!
And if you’re the twittering type, we invite you to follow us at twitter.com/IntelK12edu.

The Positive Impact of eLearning

Studies indicate that ICT-enhanced learning can benefit students, teachers, families and communities. While conclusive longitudinal studies remain to be done, an emerging body of evidence suggests that eLearning can have the following positive effects:

• Students are more engaged and able to develop 21st century skills;

• Teachers have a more positive attitude about their work and are able to provide more personalized learning;

• Family interaction and parental involvement may increase;

• Communities benefit from bridging the digital divide.
