Editor's Note
As you gear up for another school year, we at K-12 Computing Blueprint are here to support you. Whether you’re embarking on a new one-to-one implementation, figuring out cost-effective ways of building on an existing one, or simply aiming to increase the effectiveness of whatever technology programs are in place in your schools today, the resources shared at www.k12blueprint.com are designed to help you. Thanks for all that you do as you prepare our nation’s students for a future that is mind-bogglingly different from anything most of us could anticipate when we entered school ourselves. Thanks for staying the course and not giving up on the dreams that brought you into the education field in the first place. Here’s to a great new school year! -- Judy Salpeter, Editor
Learning from Klein ISD
Are you looking for an example of a one-to-one program with a great track record? That’s still going strong in spite of the economy? That’s led by a team that is both visionary and practical? If so, you’ll love our latest case study. Come check out what’s happening in Klein, Texas, where Tablet PCs are being used on a 1:1 basis by students in an intermediate school and two high schools, with plans for expansion to other schools in the years to come. In this profile Karen Fuller, Klein ISD’s CTO, and Ann McMullan, its Executive Directory of Educational Technology, describe some of the curriculum changes made possible by 1:1; offer tips on professional development; share results of an implementation study; and offer details about the hardware and infrastructure involved in their program.
